Quieter and less touristy than Lake Pichola - go for the walk along the embankment near sunset rather than paying for the boat ride, which covers a shorter loop than the Pichola version for a similar price.
Originally built in 1687 by Maharana Jai Singh, the lake's earthen dam was breached by severe flooding roughly two centuries later. Maharana Fateh Singh rebuilt it in 1889, constructing the stone Connaught Dam to commemorate a visit by the Duke of Connaught, son of Queen Victoria, and the rebuilt lake was renamed in Fateh Singh's honor. It contains three islands, including Nehru Park and the site of the Udaipur Solar Observatory, one of the few lake-based solar observatories in Asia.
