Home to Jaivana, the world's largest wheeled cannon — worth it if you're already at Amber (6 km away, easy combine), but skip as a standalone trip; less crowded than Amber which is its main appeal.
Sited on the Cheel ka Teela (Hill of Eagles) above Amber Fort, the fort's origins trace to the 11th century, but it was substantially built in 1726 by Sawai Jai Singh II to protect Amber and its royal treasury. It housed a major cannon foundry and produced the Jaivana, cast in 1720 during Jai Singh II's reign and long considered the largest wheeled cannon in the world, with a barrel over 6 meters long; it was fired only once, in a test shot. The fort remained largely inaccessible to the public until 1983 and is connected to Amber Fort by underground passages.
