WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

It's a manufactured 'village experience' theme park, not an actual village — fine for families or first-time-in-India travelers wanting a packaged folk-culture evening, but reviews consistently flag flooding within 30 min of any rain and overpriced food add-ons beyond the base thali.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

Founded in 1989-1990 by hotelier Gul Vaswani, Chokhi Dhani ('a pleasant little village' in the local dialect) was conceived as a recreated Rajasthani village to preserve and showcase regional folk culture, cuisine, and crafts for domestic and international visitors on Jaipur's Tonk Road. What began as a single ethnic-village dining concept expanded into a resort in 1994 as demand grew for overnight stays, and it has since grown into the Chokhi Dhani Group, a wider hospitality and entertainment brand with properties across India. It functions as a living cultural theme park rather than a historic monument, built specifically to give visitors an immersive, curated experience of Rajasthani village life.
