WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

A short hike from Boileauganj with a small Kamna Devi shrine at the top and sunset views over the valley — locals' pick, tourists rarely bother, which is either the appeal or the reason to skip it depending on what you want.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

Prospect Hill is one of Shimla's seven original hills and is home to the 18th-century Kamna Devi Temple, built by the Rana of Junga before the British established Shimla as a hill station. During the colonial period the hill, along with its counterparts like Jakhu and Elysium, formed part of the ring of forested high points ringing the town that defined its distinctive topography and were used for walks, picnics, and views by British residents. At 2,155 m, it remains valued today chiefly for its panoramic sunset views and as a pilgrimage and trekking destination near Boileauganj.
