WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW

Requires a forested hike near Summer Hill; peaceful and far less touristed than Jakhu, but the trail is unmarked in stretches — go with a local guide or clear daylight, not at dusk.

HISTORY & BACKGROUND

Kamna Devi Temple, dedicated to the goddess Kali, was built atop Prospect Hill by the Rana of Junga in the 18th century, predating Shimla's rise as a British colonial hill station. Constructed in a local hill style rather than the Kath Kuni or pagoda forms seen elsewhere in Himachal, it has long been considered a wish-granting shrine for pilgrims who climb the hill. It remains one of the oldest continuously used temples among Shimla's seven hills.
