Run by the Tribal Research Centre, covers Toda, Kota, Badaga, and Irula community life through models and photographs. Niche interest — worth it for those specifically curious about Nilgiri indigenous cultures, easy to skip otherwise.
The Tribal Research Centre was established in October 1983 to support the planned development of Tamil Nadu's scheduled tribes; the museum's foundation stone was laid on 12 September 1989, with the building completed and opened to the public on 2 October 1995. Located at M. Palada about 10 km from Ooty on Avalanche Road, it documents the material culture, dress, tools, and traditions of the six Primitive Tribal Groups of the Nilgiris — the Todas, Kotas, Irulas, Kurumbas, Paniyans, and Kattunayakans — who have inhabited the hills for centuries predating British arrival.
