13 km from Ooty on the Ooty-Mysore road, requires a short walk/scramble to reach the base. Best after monsoon (Oct-Dec); reduces to a trickle by peak summer, so check season before the detour.
Located on the Sigur Plateau along the Ooty-Mysore road near Kalhatti, a Badaga tribal village, the roughly 120-foot falls are also known as Bird Watcher's Falls for the diverse birdlife in the area. Local legend associates the site with the sage Agastya, and a Shiva temple at the base of the falls is believed to be more than 400 years old, making it one of the few Ooty-area attractions with a documented pre-colonial religious history predating British settlement.
