Roadside viewpoint stops that most taxi drivers include automatically — pleasant but skippable if your day is already packed, since the views repeat what you'll see elsewhere in the Nilgiris.
Part of the rolling grasslands of Wenlock Downs on the Ooty-Pykara road (commonly grouped with other Nilgiri 'mile' viewpoints tourists also associate with the Kotagiri direction), this stretch takes its name from its distance markers along colonial-era roads built to connect Ooty to outlying areas. The open downs, once used for grazing and golf by British residents, later became a favored filming location for Indian cinema, with productions including Roja, Dil Se, and Chennai Express shot in the meadows here.
