One of India's tallest Neo-Gothic churches — crypt beneath the altar is usually unlocked and empty of crowds even when the main hall is busy
A small wooden church for British officers first stood on this site from 1843; the present cathedral's foundation stone was laid on 28 October 1933 under Maharaja Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV, with construction completed in 1936. Designed by French architect Daly in Neo-Gothic style modeled on Cologne Cathedral, its twin spires rise 175 feet, making it one of the tallest churches in Asia. The nave seats up to 800 and holds stained-glass windows depicting the life of Christ.
