Dated dioramas and taxidermy in poor condition — fine for killing 30 minutes with kids nearby, not worth a special trip
Established by India's Ministry of Environment and Forests, the museum was inaugurated on 20 May 1995 on the banks of Karanji Lake, with Chamundi Hills visible in the backdrop. Spread over 5.25 acres, it was created as a regional counterpart to the National Museum of Natural History in Delhi, focused specifically on the flora, fauna, and geology of southern India. Its exhibits include dioramas of regional ecosystems, geological specimens, and displays on Western Ghats biodiversity.
