Only worth it if your visit happens to coincide with an active race weekend during the two racing seasons — check the club calendar before planning around it
Horse racing in Mysore began in 1891 under Maharaja Chamaraja Wodeyar X, with the original track located near the site of the present-day J.C. College. A new, larger course covering roughly 152 acres was developed at the foot of Chamundi Hills during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV in the early 20th century. Administration passed to the Bangalore Race Club in 1951 before the independent Mysore Race Club Limited was formed in 1968, and the current grounds have been leased from the Karnataka government since 1977, continuing a Wodeyar-era sporting tradition into the present.
